East Gippsland All Abilities Playground
The ‘From the Mountains to the Sea’ themed playground is designed to signify different parts of East Gippsland, from the timber mills to the shipwreck coast, and the extensive day visitor facilities, including shelters, BBQ’s and picnic tables, make it a perfect place for a family day out.
The playground features a Liberty Swing, which enables people in wheelchairs to experience the simple, yet often taken-for-granted, joy of swinging at a playground, and the entire playground design has a strong emphasis upon creating an experience for people with special needs, but it is open for the enjoyment of all.
A key to the accessible toilet (with electric hoist and a shower) and the Liberty Swing can be borrowed from the Bairnsdale Police Station (47 Main Street, Bairnsdale) or master keys can be purchased using the information in the attached flyer. Purchased keys also open other toilets and facilities across Australia that are fitted with this specially designed lock.
There is a car ferry that costs about $12 return for a car, or free for pedestrians, bicycles, or wheelchairs, and leaves about every 20 minutes for the short trip across to the Island. On the Island there is a Koala trail, roads (both made and dirt) that provide access to many views.
Lots to do in and around Paynesville
Visit Paynesville, the Heart of the Gippsland Lakes website for a wealth of information.
Come to see our New Years Eve fireworks display launched from a pontoon off the beach, with music and fairground activities, that make Paynesville a great place to welcome in the New Year.
The large country town of Bairnsdale is nearby with plenty of major store shopping, in Woolworths, Coles, Aldi, Kmart, Target, Rivers, BCF and markets.
A scenic drive to nearby Metung and Lakes Entrance gives access to more holiday activities too.
